Job Description
UPWORK is looking for applicants for virtual transcriptionist / captioner. This is a remote role and is suitable for candidates with good listening ability, good typing speed, and good command over the English language. This position involves transcribing audio and video recordings into accurate written transcripts and creating captions for all types of media content.
The people who are chosen for this work will do projects, like interviews and podcasts. They will also work on webinars and online meetings. Sometimes they will work on documentaries and educational videos. The chosen candidates will work on these kinds of media projects.
All the work they do needs to be done carefully. They need to listen and use proper grammar. The chosen candidates also need to format everything just like the client tells them to do.
This job is perfect for people who work on their own students and people who have part-time jobs. It is also great for anyone who wants to do transcription or captioning work from home for a time. The remote transcription and captioning work is something that people can do from anywhere long as they have a computer and an internet connection. Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Carefully listen to audio and video recordings.
- Speech to text Convert spoken dialogue to written form.
- Write captions and subtitles for media content.
- Proofread transcriptions before submitting.
- We have said our piece, now it is up to the public to decide.
- Adhere to transcription guidelines and style guides supplied for each project.
- Add speaker labels or timestamps or descriptions of background sounds, as needed.
- Ensure the proper formatting of the documents in each assignment.
- Submit work on completion within agreed timescales.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client files and information.
- If you have any clarifications needed during the project, talk to the project managers.
Qualification
Applications are invited from candidates who have completed any of the following:
High School Diploma and Graduation in any stream
Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of their academic background, provided they have a good command of the English language.
Required Skills
Applicants will need to have the following skills:
- Excellent English grammar and punctuation.
- Good listener and comprehension skills.
- Preferred: 60 words per minute or higher typing speed.
- Attention to details .
- Ability to understand different accents in English.
- Time management is good.
- General computer skills.
- Can work independently from a home office.
- Confidence to do repetitive work without losing accuracy.
Software Knowledge
Experience with the following software is considered advantageous:
Express Scribe oTranscribe Rev Captioner Aegisub
Subtitle Edit Microsoft Word
Google Docs
Google documents
Having some knowledge of MP3, MP4, WAV, MOV and similar media file formats will also be useful.
Experience
Freshers with good typing and English skills can apply.
Previous experience in transcription, captioning, subtitling or documentations is preferred.
Experience working on podcasts, interviews, online meetings or educational content will be considered as a plus.
Experience working as a freelancer on online work platforms is a plus but not mandatory.

The company has flexible working arrangements.

Projects must be completed prior to the submission deadline.
Depending on performance and project availability, additional assignments may be offered.

- Simple document editing software.
