Job Description
Kelly Education works with school districts across the United States and places substitute teachers in classrooms every day. Kelly Education is one of the largest education staffing companies in the country and have been placing teachers in schools for decades. Right now they need substitute teachers who can step into classrooms on short notice and keep things running smoothly when the regular teacher is away.
This is a good job for people who enjoy working with students and want a flexible schedule. Some days you will know about an assignment the night before. Other days you might get a call in the morning. Either way the work is straightforward — you go in, follow the lesson plan left by the regular teacher, and make sure students stay on track.
Job Role:
- Take over classes when the regular teacher is absent
- Follow the lesson plan left by the classroom teacher
- Keep students focused and maintain order in the classroom
- Take attendance and handle basic classroom admin tasks
- Report any issues or incidents to school administration
- Build good relationships with school staff so they call you back regularly
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday during school hours — typically 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
- No work on weekends, school holidays, or summer break
- Flexible — you choose which assignments to accept
- Daily assignments or long term placements both available
Job Benefits
- Daily pay of $120 – $180 depending on the school district and grade level
- Flexible schedule — work as many or as few days as you want
- No evening or weekend work
- Experience that looks great on a resume if you want to become a full time teacher
- Kelly Education handles all the paperwork and placement so you just focus on teaching
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in any subject is required in most states
- A valid substitute teaching permit or license for your state
- Comfortable managing a classroom of students on your own
- Patient and calm when dealing with students of different ages and behaviors
- Reliable — schools depend on you to show up when you say you will
- Good communication with school staff and administration
- A clean background check is mandatory before starting
Experience
Prior teaching or classroom experience is preferred but not always required. If you have a bachelor's degree and a valid substitute permit, Kelly Education will work with you to get placed in schools. Some states have different requirements so check what is needed in your specific state before applying.
