Dispensary Associate Jobs / Budtender - Curaleaf

Curaleaf is one of the largest cannabis companies in America. They operate dispensaries in more than 20 states, selling recreational and medical cannabis products. Right now they are hiring Dispensary Associates, also known as Budtenders, at locations across the country.

We are looking for full and part time staff. No prior cannabis experience is needed to apply. Curaleaf trains you on everything before you work the floor.

The role is a mix of retail and product education. You will be talking with customers all day long, on a normal shift. Some know only what they wish to know. Some walk into a dispensary for the first time and have no idea where to start. Your job is to make both types of person feel comfortable and leave with the right product.

This role has a compliance aspect as well. State law governs cannabis retail, and every sale must be done correctly -- ID verification, purchase limits, documentation. You will be taught all that in training, but it becomes part of your daily habit once you are on the floor.

What a Day in the Life Looks Like

You walk in, set up your station and the shift starts. First customers are coming in at opening time. You check their IDs, ask a few questions about what they want and walk them through it. Some transactions take 2 min. Others are fifteen, especially with first-time customers or medical patients, who need a little more guidance.

Between customers you're restocking shelves, cleaning your area and keeping an eye on inventory. Weekends can be particularly busy and fly by. You’re checking IDs and making change and answering questions and moving the line forward, all at the same time.

You balance your register at the end of your shift, complete any paperwork required by state law and turn it over to the next person.

Responsibilities

• Check valid government-issued ID for every customer before any transaction
• Help customers pick the right product based on their needs and preferences
• Process sales accurately through the POS system
• Handle cash and card payments and keep your register balanced
• Keep your section of the dispensary clean, stocked, and organised
• Follow all state cannabis regulations and Curaleaf compliance standards
• Assist with inventory counts and backroom tasks during quieter periods
• Answer phone queries from customers when needed during your shift
• Report any product, inventory, or compliance concerns to your supervisor

Skills Required

• Comfortable talking to different types of people throughout the day
• Able to explain products clearly without using too much technical language
• Good with cash and basic math
• Detail-oriented — you can't skip steps when it comes to compliance
• Stays calm when it's busy and the line is long
• Works well as part of a team

Training and Growth

Curaleaf will conduct full product and compliance training prior to going live on the floor. No cannabis knowledge required to get started – training includes product types, effects, state regulations and handling a variety of customer situations.
And there’s room to grow once you’re settled in. Many Dispensary Associates at Curaleaf transition into Lead Budtender, Shift Supervisor or Store Manager roles over time. If you want to start a career in cannabis retail, this is a decent place to get your start.

Work Environment

Curaleaf dispensaries are retail stores, not warehouses. You are working in a clean, well-lit environment, either behind a counter or on a sales floor. The busiest times are weekends and holidays. Most shifts are 6-8 hours. You’ll be on your feet for most of it.
Usually the team is small – anywhere from 5-15 people per location depending on the size of the store. You get to know your coworkers fast and the pace of the job tends to make the shifts go by fast.
